This contest is open to the following age groups:
Ages 8-10 Prize: $50 Scholarship
Ages 11-13 Prize: $50 Scholarship
Ages 14-16 Prize: $100 Scholarship
Ages 17 - 21 Prize: $100 Scholarship
Submission guidelines: All entrants must submit an essay that explains and exemplifies the importance of literacy and
education in todays African-American and Latino students. The essay must be doubled
spaced and typed with a black 12-point font. (No fancy fonts) The essay needs to be between 5 and 10 pages in length. Entrants must type their name, date, word count and contact information (i.e. address
or e-mail address and phone number) and age in the upper right hand corner of the page.
Each page must be numbered. Cover pages are okay.
Entrants will be judged on sincerity, creativity, originality, grammar and structure.
Submissions received that are fewer than five pages and over 10 pages will automatically eliminated. If you would like your essay returned, please also include a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope). Any submissions without a SASE will not be returned.
In addition to a scholarship, the winning submission will be featured on Literary Wonders! Featured in AMAG Online!
And submitted to various media outlets.
This contest is open to all African-American and Latino, US Citizens fitting the specified age groups.
Deadline for submissions is November 30, 2005.
